What is Angular Cheilitis or Perleche?

Are you familiar with angular cheilitis or perleche? You might not have heard about it but you might have already suffered from it at least once in your life.

Angular cheilitis is a condition wherein inflammatory lesions develop along the corners of your lips or mouth. This skin condition is also referred to as cheilosis, perleche or angular stomatitis. This skin condition can affect either one of the sides of your mouth and sometimes, it can affect both corners of your lips.

You know that you are suffering from this kind of skin problem when deep cracks or splits develop at the corners of your mouth. It is also possible that these cracks or splits will bleed as you move your lips or mouth. In fact, there have been cases wherein ulcers or crusts form on the affected areas.

This condition is quite common especially in cold weather. To help keep you from suffering this condition, try to moisturize the corners of your mouth to keep them from going dry.
